Art, What Is It?

The question.

What is Art?

In this animation various Americans are interviewed about art.

This is Animated by Aardman.

My favorite thing about this video is not only the discussion, but the references to famous paintings and art pieces.
If you look closely  you will see definite mentions of “A Friend in Need” from Cassius Marcellus Coolidge’s “Dog’s Playing Poker” Series, “American Gothic” by Grant DeVolson Wood, and  Warhol’s “Campbell’s Soup Cans.” I know there are others but these are the obvious ones I recognize. Also, there is a reference to the painting where the monkey is painting art, but I can’t remember the name of it.

"A Friend in Need" from Cassius Marcellus Coolidge's "Dogs Playing Poker" series, (commissioned in 1903 by Brown & Bigelow to advertise cigars)

"American Gothic" by Grant DeVolson Wood, (1930)

"Campbell's Soup Cans" by Andy Warhol, 1962
