The article “In with the Old” by Ann Landi in the 2011 Artnews journal, talks about the works of Kehinde Wiley.
Working out of studios in New York, Bejing and Senegal, he at the age of 33 has accomplished a lot. The article talks more about his biographical information, however I was more interested in his artwork.
Wiley has a unique and quirky sense of humor that displays in this vibrantly colored and widely pattern portraits. Done in a parody of old master paintings, his art work display modern young men of color in background of patterns that also wrap around the figure. My two favorites were “The Chancellor Seguier on Horseback,” 2005 and “After Jean-Bernard Resout’s Sleep,” 2009
